On Wednesday evening, a fire in Colrain took out Charlemont’s primary connection to the internet for approximately 11 hours. Charlemont’s network remained operational during this outage, although with degraded service. Whip City Fiber diagnosed the problem quickly, dispatched repair crews, and provided customer updates throughout the outage and repair.
Charlemont has taken steps to reduce service degradation during this type of outage in the future. The town is also working on a long-term plan for additional improvements to network resiliency.
