Curious about the equipment that will be installed in your home or business to support Charlemont’s fiber-optic service? A board with samples of the equipment included with an installation remains on display in Avery’s store’s front window through the end of August.
This demo board includes a Network Interface Device (NID) that is installed on the exterior of your building, the microduct that protects the fiber as it goes from the NID to the interior, and the Optical Network Terminal (ONT), which is mounted indoors, typically near your electrical panel near a standard electrical outlet. Installers will run the cable inside your home or business from the ONT to the desired location of the router, which is also on display.
It is recommended that you provide emergency backup power such as a universal power supply (UPS) or a household generator to keep your service, including your Ooma phone service, active in the event of a power outage. This optional equipment is not included as a part of the installation.
A brochure detailing the quality and cost of the service, as well as information about the installation is also available inside the store. A big thank you to the employee-owners of A.L. Avery for making this display space available to introduce the service to the community!
