Make-ready, the work needed for the utility companies to prepare the poles to support a municipal fiber network, is underway in Charlemont! National Grid has been granted permission by the town to store replacement utility poles at the fairgrounds. These poles will be used to replace existing poles that have been deemed unfit to support the fiber optic cables that Charlemont Connect will be installing to serve residences in town. You may see National Grid trucks on your streets and working on the utility poles and lines over the next few months.
Verizon is expected to begin their make-ready work in late spring. When both Verizon and National Grid have completed this work, Charlemont Connect will validate that the work is complete and begin the construction of our town-owned fiber-optic broadband network.
