New State Funding Announced for Municipal Broadband

In a visit to Western Mass on October 10, Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito announced an additional 5 million dollars in last-mile funding for the 21 towns building municipal fiber networks, as reported in MassLive.

Although there is some ambiguity about the final disbursement criteria, Charlemont is an eligible community to access these additional state funds to support the cost of connecting subscribers.  Charlemont is working closely with the state Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development with our Last-Mile grant for the design and construction of the municipal fiber network. These newly announced funds are intended to help with the cost of connecting the premises to the municipal network for those that take service.
