Installations are being scheduled in East Charlemont in parallel with the completion of the validation process and formal release. In an effort to accelerate the connections for customers in this fiber service area, Whip City Fiber will begin installations while also validating the network testing and will remediate any issues identified by validation prior to a formal release to the town.

On Wednesday evening, a fire in Colrain took out Charlemont’s primary connection to the internet for approximately 11 hours. Charlemont’s network remained operational during this outage, although with degraded service. Whip City Fiber diagnosed the problem quickly, dispatched repair crews, and provided customer updates throughout the outage and repair.

Comments closedThe federal government is working with Whip City Fiber to offer the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) to reduce the monthly cost of the municipal fiber network service by $50/month for qualified subscribers! This benefit can also be combined with the federal LifeLine benefit for those that qualify, which will reduce the monthly charge by an additional $9.25/month.

Lower subsidy amounts are available to those that want to connect their home or business but are not yet ready to take service. All installation subsidies are only available for a limited window while installation teams are active in town.

Homes and businesses are eligible to receive service if they are located in the village west of the town hall and convenience store through to Zoar Outdoor, including Warfield Road, Riddell Road, High Street.
