Every house, apartment, mobile home, and business in Charlemont is encouraged to sign up for world-class municipal fiber-optic broadband service coming to locations in FSA 01 in July. Renters can get the full installation subsidy of up to $1,400 with permission from the landlord when committing to a year of service. Non-resident landlords qualify for up to a $1,000 subsidy per rental unit for an exterior-only drop without the requirement to take service, making it free for most properties. The interior installation, a $450 value during the construction period, requires a commitment to take service for 12 months.
Charlemont Connect recommends that the landlord sign up for an exterior installation for each rental unit by selecting “I want fiber to my house but am not ready to commit to service.” and reach out to all tenants to provide installation permission and promote the service. Although there is just one subsidy per location, those committing to service will be processed first unlocking the full subsidy and the interior installation for the unit. Full details regarding the installation subsidies are available in the town’s Residential Service Connection and Installation Policy.
The service is $79.99/month with up to $50/mo off the service for households that qualify for the federal Emergency Broadband Benefit and an additional $9.25/ mo off for those that qualify for the federal LifeLine program.
