Our partners at Westfield Gas & Electric (WG&E) have completed the installation of the active electronics in the Charlemont Network Hub. With this step, Charlemont’s municipal fiber network hub is now lit and connected to the world! The purchase of the active electronics was supported by a USDA Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) of $36,000.
Over the next few weeks, individual optical fibers that linked to the tap for each premise in town, called the MST, will be connected to the optical equipment in the network hub, starting with those located in our first Fiber Service Area, FSA 01. The final step in connecting a home or business to the network is to install the fiber from the MST into a home or business. Customers in FSA 01 should expect to be contacted to schedule these installations at the beginning of July.
