Charlemont’s first fiber service area, FSA 01, has completed testing and has now moved into the final validation phase! Once our partners at Westfield Gas and Electric validate the testing data, this fiber service area will be turned over to the town to begin in-home installations and provide service to subscribers in July.
Progress continues in each of the remaining fiber service areas through the six phases of the network construction process: strand, fiber, MSTs, splicing, testing, and validation. The second fiber service area to get service will be FSA 05, which is in the splicing phase. FSA 04 has completed the MST phase and is waiting for splicing to begin. FSA 02 has strand and fiber being hung. FSA 03, although not formally in construction yet, has had a few locations in the center of town completed through the splicing phase as a part of the effort to coordinate with the multi-year traffic calming project.
The project remains on schedule and on budget. Charlemont’s broadband team continues to look for opportunities to accelerate the timeline for service to all homes and businesses.
